On Tuesday 18th April we packed the HMBiz kiddies in the car (don’t you just love half term holidays?!) and headed to the Midlands Air Ambulance base in Strensham Motorway Services to present them with a cheque for £825. This was raised at the HMBiz Christmas event held last December and an Easter raffle held during our last Expo in April. Many thanks also to attendees of our breakfast meetings as they also donated generously to this amount.
It was a beautiful sunny day and we were pleased to spot the gleaming red helicopter on the pad as we approached as you can never be too sure when they will be called to someone in need. Mary Seldon, fundraising manager, met us and showed us into the headquarters where we were introduced to the pilot and 2 paramedics. Our mini HMBizzers enjoyed a tour of the helicopter and its life saving equipment, and then were given a map lesson (who knew mud was yellow on a map?).
We chose a fantastic day to visit as the crew had planned to carry out a training exercise so we held onto our hats and watched as the helicopter and it’s amazing crew headed off……..
Many thanks to Mary and the crew for a wonderful visit. We will be having more events and raffles throughout this year. If you would like to donate a prize please let us know. If you would like to donate to the Midland Air Ambulance, please click on the link below. They run completely on the donations of generous people just like you.
With the Herefordshire Means Business brand growing and expanding we decided that networking was one of the areas that we could develop next. With many Networking breakfasts already taking place in the county we wanted to look for a way to make ours unique. Following on from discussions with local business people, we decided that one of the main things people were looking for was a relaxed environment with new faces where people could chat and network without formalities.
We approached our partners Hereford Football Club and decided to hold the breakfast in their newly refurbished Executive Suite. Our first breakfast took place on the 12th January 2017 and was a huge success. With over 60 people booked, and a wide variety of business types the room was full of chatter with many new connections being made.
One attendee said:
“I attended the first Hereford Means Business @Breakfast meeting this morning and very much enjoyed the event. The surroundings at Hereford FC were superb. The event was relaxed and informal. There were lots of new faces enabling me to connect with new contacts.”
After the first event, we contacted our attendees to find out if they had enjoyed the breakfast and if there was anything they would like to change. The feedback we received was amazing with many saying it was perfect the way it was.
Following this feedback, we organised our second event which was held on the 9th February 2017 again with over 50 booked the event went down as another achievement. Our guest speaker was Ian Davies from Like Radio who gave an interesting short talk on his business, something which many attendees wouldn’t know much about.
This was followed by Martin Brain, commercial manager of Hereford FC who showed a new exclusive first play of a short film about the football club highlighting how they can help local business with advertising and other commercial opportunities.
Hereford Means Business @ Breakfast is free to attend and all local businesses are welcome to come along. They are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Our next meeting is the 9th March from 7.30-9.30 and tickets can be booked in advance from our Eventbrite page. www.hmbiz.eventbrite.com
An exciting start to 2017 as Hereford FC continue to add to the partnership with Herefordshire Means Business.
Rich Beale, Operations Director, said,
“Herefordshire Means Business is all about connecting and supporting local businesses.
Our aim is to build relationships with local businesses, which is what we have achieved with Hereford FC and are looking forward to working closely with them in 2017”.
What better way to start the partnership, than by hosting the first Hereford Means Business @Breakfast at Hereford FC in their newly refurbished Executive Suite!
With a footfall of over 45, the event was a huge success not only giving the opportunity for local businesses to network but also raise the profile of Hereford FC.

Hereford Means Christmas was another successful event for Herefordshire Means Business. In aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance this event took place on the 3rd of December at the Hereford Town Hall supporting the national campaign Small Business Saturday.
Over 25 exhibitors were showcasing local businesses and offering a wide range of gifts from candles to furniture to cakes to crackers and so much more…
Festive music filled the room from Live Radio, with guests enjoying free mulled wine and mince pies whilst purchasing the festive crafts on offer.
We were delighted the Mayor of Hereford Cllr Jim Kenyon and Jesse Norman MP joined us to do a spot of Christmas shopping.
Jesse Norman said “It was a great event, full of warmth and energy…and fabulous potential Christmas presents.”
Hereford Mayor, Jim Kenton said “it was a well organised event with knowledgeable business owners and fab local products.”
We are delighted to confirm all funds were donated to the well-deserved Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
Another massively successful Hereford Means Business Expo took place on Tuesday 8th November 2016 at the Three Counties Hotel.
With over 65 exhibitors set up, the delegates were greeted by our friendly reception team, with name badges and of course, goody bags for all!
We were delighted to welcome Google Digital Garage who delivered two very informative seminars to a packed attentive audience and Garry Jones for his interesting talk on Creating Space to Breathe Wealth.
With an overwhelming increase in footfall, the day was packed with networking, enabling attendees to make connections, share knowledge and information and put faces to names to contacts they had connected with online.
We give special thanks to BMW Cotswold, our corporate sponsors for the event who brought along some of their cars for people to view outside the venue, and our event partners, RE Resource, Hereford FC and FSB. We also thank our Media sponsors Like Radio who kept everyone informed throughout the day on the PA system.
We were honoured to have the Right Worshipful Mayor of Hereford, Jim Kenyon visit us on the day he said:
“What a well-‐supported and organised event for businesses. I was impressed by who was gathered there and the array of cutting edge initiatives going on right here within the county. Looking forward to being involved in the next one.”
A new addition to this Expo was the #hmbiz selfie frame which was a huge hit with all including our youngest helpers!
We were delighted the mayor also posed for a photo in our #hmbiz selfie frame.
We are very happy to confirm by popular demand; the next Hereford Means Business Expo is Tuesday 4 April 2017 at the Three Counties Hotel. Keep posted for further details.
With the next Expo under a week away we thought we would share some advice for Exhibitors to ensure you have a great day.
TOP TOPS FOR EXHIBITORS
- Don’t miss opportunities. Make sure that you man your stand to enable you to engage with Expo visitors and your potential new clients.
- Giveaways are great. To allow you to capture that contact information, a freebie or offer for visitors who leave you a card is a wonderful idea.
- Follow up your leads. You’ve made lots of new contacts, chatted to people and got their information so don’t waste this fantastic opportunity. Within a week or so of the Expo, why not drop new contacts a tweet or an email to strengthen a new business relationship?
The Expo will provide you with many fantastic opportunities for your business. Here are a few helpful hints to make sure that your day is as successful as possible.
TOP TIPS FOR VISITORS
- Make sure that you have a ready supply of business cards/contact information for your business. As well as making new contacts yourself, you want to give other businesses the opportunity to link with you. A notepad and pen are also handy for you to make notes during the day.
- Make sure you are wearing cool, comfortable clothing as these events often tend to be busy and can sometimes get warm. Don’t forget your feet too, make sure that footwear is comfortable (there’s nothing worse than blisters!)
- Be open and make the most of having a host of potential new contacts ready and raring to chat to you about your business. A friendly smile goes a long way and don’t be nervous about approaching an exhibitor.
DON’T FORGET to book your FREE entrance ticket to receive a goody bag!!
The Malvern Hills Business Expo held on the 13th October 2016 promised to be another exciting opportunity for local business to come together once more. It was being held at the very popular Abbey Hotel in Malvern.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff and were shown to our stand space with our free goodie bag!
There were many different businesses set up within the room some of which we had met at our own expo and some new faces.
As the evening progressed visitors began to arrive chatting to stall holders and making new contacts.
The second Hereford Means Business Curry Club held on Friday 16th September 2016 promised to be another exciting opportunity for local business to come together once more.
Again it was being held at the very popular Champagne Signature. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff and the smell of the authentic Indian food which was being prepared it really got our taste buds tingling!
The bar was ready and raring to serve the first few guests as they arrived including PCLogix bear and although the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed you could tell that some important connections were being made. There was a wide range of different businesses attending all with one common purpose to network in a relaxed, informative environment- but the gorgeous curry was definitely an added bonus to the event.
Once everyone had enjoyed a drink and introductions had taken place we were seated and beautiful platters of mixed starters were served, a particular highlight were the freshly prepared Onion Bhajees which melted in the mouth. The traditional Saag Prawn Curry was delicious as were the numerous other traditional meat and vegetable curries each one with a different taste and heat. The staff as always were attentive, polite and helpful and ready to cater for any dietary requirement including Gluten and Dairy free as requested.
The afternoon flowed wonderfully with many attendees expressing a desire to return to the next Hereford Means Business Curry Club in November!

Congratulations to Rich Beale, Chris Garside & Hannah Garside on a fabulous event. I exhibited at the first one in Hereford in April and have already booked onto the November one. I popped along to Ross for an hour, as a ‘punter’. I stayed for 3.5 hours!! Experienced my first ever ‘speed networking’ which was fast and fun. I think I liked it!
